今日はプレミアムカフェ英会話♪の講師ブライアンからのレポートをご紹介します。

国境のない世界
言語は、国家の魂です。数世紀前までは、英語はリングワ・フランカ、あるいは世界共通言語と考えられていたため、英語は地球全体の共通の魂であるといえます。主に世界中の公的なコミュニケーションにおいて使用されています。さらに、ビジネス、旅行、娯楽など各個人の持つ目的でそれを学びたいという人々の願望によって、その重要性が強調されることがあります。
この数ヶ月間、プレミアムカフェ英会話♪（PCE）での、英語を話すためのよりよい場所がほしいと願う人々との出会い、私を開眼させました。様々な生き方、多様な背景を持つ人々は、私のプレミアムカフェ英会話♪での体験を素晴らしいものにしてくれしました。
多様性に富むことは、人生のスパイスです。生徒さんの中には、マラソンの計画について教えてくれた人、朝や夜にヨガを行っている人、ペルシャ料理から日本の伝統的なお弁当まで様々な料理を作る人などがいました。その他にも、趣味でハンカチ染めをしている人、4〜5つの言語を独学で学んでいる人、アイルランドのアクセントを真似してしている人など、誰もが興味深い話をたくさん共有してくれました。こうした話を聞くことは、自分の人生を彩る偉大な冒険小説を開くようなものです。まるで催眠術にかかったように、開いた口がふさがらなくなるくらいの驚きと興奮です。こうした体験は、私によい広い視点を与えてくれました。本当にラ・ヴィータ・エ・ベラ - 人生は美しいです。
東京大学で化学を学ぶ学生である私は、一日の多くの時間を研究室を狭い研究室の中で過ごします。人間の細胞を扱い機械を覗く作業は、時に頭がおかしくなりそうになります。 PCEは、私は人生の他の面を探求する新しい地平線を私に与えてくれました。人生には、ただひたすら科学を学ぶこと以外にも、はるかに多くの物事があります。さまざまな人々と交流することによって、彼らが旅した場所をいつか自分も訪れてみたいと思ったり（60ヶ国！）、彼らがしたこと（マラソンなど）を自分も試してみようと思ったり、彼らの様々な人生のモチベーションから、インスピレーションを得ることができます。
英語という普遍的な魂あるいは共通言語を学ぶことによって、私たちは異なる人種、性別、年齢、経済的背景の人びとの間に橋渡しをしています。これらの橋が異なる人々や国々を結ぶことによって、平和、理解、調和が存在する、国境のない世界ができることでしょう。
国境のない世界を作ることにつながるPCEコミュニティの一員になれて、うれしく思います。皆さんが私たちのセッションに参加してくれることを願っています。

A World Without Borders
Language is the soul of a nation. In the past century, English is the lingua franca or considered as the universal language, hence, one can say that English is the universal soul of the Earth. It is used mainly in official communications all-around the world. Moreover, its importance can be highlighted by the people’s desire to learn it for business, travel, leisure and other personal purposes.
For the past months, the Premium Café Eikaiwa (PCE) has opened my eyes to these different people who aspire to gain better ground in speaking English. People from different walks of life and diverse background have made my PCE experience a remarkable one. After all, variety is the spice of life. I remember students who shared their plans in running a marathon, doing yoga in either in morning or night, cooking different foods like Persian cuisines to authentic Japanese obento, etc. Others shared their unique hobbies such as dyeing handkerchiefs, self-learning four or five languages, imitating Irish accents, travelling to 60 countries (you heard it right, 60!), and other fascinating stories. Hearing these stories from them was like opening a great fantasy novel that sprung to life. It’s hypnotizing, it’s jaw dropping and it’s totally mesmerizing. It gave me a greater perspective that indeed, La vita e bella- Life is beautiful.
As a chemistry student at the University of Tokyo, most of my time I am confined inside a laboratory. Working with human cells and seeing machines can drive one crazy. Through PCE, it has provided me with a new horizon to explore the other facets of life. There’s much more to life than just doing science. Being able to interact with the different people inspires me to someday visit the places they have visited (60 countries!), try the things they did (marathon, perhaps), or gain more inspirations from their personal motivations in life.
By learning the universal soul or language that is English, we are creating bridges among different race, gender, age or economic background. These bridges which can unite different people and different countries in attaining a borderless world where peace, understanding and harmony reside.
I am happy to be a part of the PCE community that gears toward creating a world without borders. I hope you can come and join us in our sessions.
